Crowdin Setup Tutorial

Get from zero to your first Langbly translation inside Crowdin in about ten minutes. For a feature reference rather than a walkthrough, see the Crowdin integration page.

Prerequisites

  • A Crowdin account with a project you administer.
  • A Langbly account. Create one here. Payment details are required to activate API access, and the first 500,000 input characters each month are included. Additional usage costs $5 per million input characters, with no base fee.
  • A Langbly API key from your dashboard.

1. Install the app

From the Crowdin Store (recommended):

  1. Open Langbly Machine Translation in the Crowdin Store.
  2. Click Get and select the Crowdin account or organization to install into.

Manual install (alternative):

  1. Go to Account Settings → Crowdin Applications → Manual install.
  2. Paste the manifest URL: https://api.langbly.com/crowdin/manifest.json
  3. Click Install and confirm the access permissions.

2. Enable Langbly and add your API key

  1. Open your project → Settings → Machine Translation.
  2. Enable Langbly as an MT engine.
  3. Enter your Langbly API key when the app asks for credentials.
  4. (Optional) Set Langbly as the default engine for pre-translation.

3. Your first successful translation

In the editor:

  1. Open any string in the Crowdin editor.
  2. Look at the TM & MT panel: a suggestion labeled Langbly appears within a few seconds.
  3. Success looks like: a fluent suggestion with placeholders (like %1%) intact.

With pre-translate (bulk):

  1. From your project, choose Pre-translate → Machine Translation.
  2. Select Langbly, pick files and target languages, and run.
  3. Success looks like: new translations saved as drafts/unapproved strings, ready for review.

Limitations

  • Langbly is a machine translation engine. It provides suggestions and pre-translations; Crowdin's human review and approval workflow stays in place; review output for user-facing or legal content.
  • Batches are limited to 50 strings per request; large pre-translate runs are processed in multiple batches and can take a few minutes.
  • Context awareness depends on what Crowdin sends: string identifiers, context notes, and max-length constraints improve results, but are not always present.
  • Keep your monthly volume in view in the Langbly dashboard; above the included 500,000 input characters, usage is billed per million input characters.

Troubleshooting

No Langbly suggestions in the editor

  • Confirm the app is installed in the right Crowdin account/organization.
  • Confirm Langbly is enabled under Project Settings → Machine Translation.
  • Check that your API key is valid (create a fresh one in the dashboard if in doubt).

Pre-translate fails or stops early

  • Check your Langbly dashboard for usage limits or spending caps.
  • Very large files take multiple batches; wait for completion before re-running.

Suggestions look slow

  • One to three seconds per batch is normal; suggestions are generated on demand.

Still stuck? Email hello@langbly.com with your project language pair and roughly when the problem occurred; never include your API key.

Status

The Langbly Crowdin app has been public in the Crowdin Store since February 2026. The Store description is currently being refreshed to match the present pricing; the app itself is unaffected. Feedback is welcome at hello@langbly.com.
